Michael Egan (1830-Ca.1901) a brother of James Egan (1832-
1898) emigrated from County Galway, Ireland arriving at the port of New
York on July 9, 1852/55. Michael and James stated in their naturalization
papers that they were born in County Queens, Ireland. Research by Byron F
Egan a great-grandson of Michael indicated that Michael and James lived in
County Galway with the Fahey and Slatterly families. Current research in
Woodford and Killeenadeema Parishs indicated that these families were
engaged in marriages and baptizisms as sponsors and witnesses.
The Slatterly and Fahey families could have emigrated with Michael Egan
and stopped in Ohio before arriving in Hancock county, Kentucky by 1860.
In the 1860 Federal Census of Hancock county Michael is living with his
brother James Egan. Both the Fahey and Slatterly families were living
together in the same household without a Mr. Slatterly. In the Fahey
family are listed: Jerry age 44, Mary 28 and Bridget 18. In the Slatterly
family are listed Julia age 24, Mary 3, Gertrude 1 with the birthplace of
Mary and Gertrude listed as Ohio.
In the 1870 Federal Census of Hancock County, Kentucky Bridget Fahey is
listed as the wife of Thompson Thorton. They have issue of Henry 13, Mary
8 and Mark 6. Julia Slatterly is listed as the wife of Michael Egan with
issue of Andrew 7, Michael 5, Thomas 4 and Jeremiah 2. also listed in the

residence of Jeremiah Fahey by Michael Flynn Parish Priest. Julia
Slatterly (1836-XXXX) married Michael Egan (1830-Ca.1910) in the Catholic

They had issue of Mary (Egan) Gibbs (1896-XXXX), Gertrude (Egan) Young
(1898-XXXX), Dora (Egan) Henry (1905-Ca.1980), Louise and Charles.
Current research in Galway County, Ireland indicated that the Egan, Fahey
and Slatterly families lived in the general area of Woodford. The parish
registers of Woodford and Killeenadeema indicated that these families were
involved in marriages and baptizisms. Contingent to Woodford Parish is
Clonrush Parish which is now in County Clare but was in County Galway in
the 1800's. The Clonrush Parish contains the, townlands of Whitegate and
Derrainey where it was reported that Julia Fahey (1836-XXXX) married a
Slatterly about 1855.
In the Religious Census of 1889 in Woodford-Parish a Patrick Slatterly age
eight was reported to have gone back to Whitegate which validates to some
degree Julia Fahey's place of marriage. Patrick Slatterly had been living
in the Patt Fahey household. Patt
Fahey was thirty-five years old, a farmer and his wife was listed as dead.
In the Killeenadeema Parish a Peter Fahey married Honoria Slatterly in
1855 and had a daughter who was born in 1857 and baptized as Bridget.
